The Two Witness in the Bible

the two witness

The two witness in the Bible is only for Jews not for the Gentiles. It will take place during the tribulation period after the second coming of Christ. And 144,000 also taken from Israel and the left behind will face the tribulation and the antichrist. The two witness will also come during these days. First prophecy about two witnesses is in (Zechariah 4:3-11, 14) here Zechariah talks about the two olive trees. They represent the two men chosen to serve the Lord for the whole world.

Who will be the two witness?

We can’t say who will be the two witness; this is entirely doubtful.

  1. Moses or Elijah.
  2. Elijah or Enoch.
  3. Moses or Enoch

Have a look on three of these great persons in the Bible.

Enoch

Enoch was the first man in the Bible who disappeared from the earth at the age of 365 years, and he had sons and daughters also. We can see this in (Genesis 5:23, 24) says “So Enoch lived a total of 365 years. Like one day, Enoch was walking with God, and he disappeared from the earth. God took him.”  And (Hebrew 11:5) “Enoch has carried away from this earth, so he never died. The scriptures (Bible) tell us that before he was carried off, he was a man who pleased the God almighty. Later, no one knew where he was, because God has taken Enoch to be with him. This all happened because he had great faith.

(Jude 14,15) says Enoch was a prophet. “Enoch, the seventh descendant from the Adam, prophesied said “this about these people: look, the Lord is coming with the thousands and the thousands of his holy angels to judge everyone”. And He will punish all those who are against him for all the evil they have done in their lack of respect for him. Yes, the Lord will surely punish all these sinners who don’t honor him. He will punish them for all those evil things they have said against him.”

Moses

Moses was born in the family of Levi. (Exodus 2) He was a great prophet Bible proves this. First, five books of the Bible are written by Moses. And he was a law writer, In (Deuteronomy 31:24-26) says “Moses carefully wrote all these teaching in a book. When he finished, he gave a command to the Levites. (These men carry the Lord’s box of the agreement.) Moses said, take this book of Teaching and put it by the side of the box of the Agreement of the Lord your God. Then it will be a witness against you. In (Deuteronomy 34:5-7) says, “Then Moses, the Lord’s servant, died there in the land of Moab. The Lord had told Moses that this would happen. The Lord buried Moses in Moab. This place was in the valley across from Beth Peor. But even that today no one knows exactly where the grave of Moses is. Moses was 120 years old when he died. He was strong as ever, and his eyes were still good.” There are so many of the things to tell about Moses because the Bible has so many evidence about Moses.

Elijah

It is not mentioned in the Bible that when and where Elijah was born. First Elijah is referred to in the(I Kings 17) chapter. Elijah was a prophet from the town of Tishbe in Gilead. In (2 Kings 2:11-14) The Lord takes Elijah into heaven. Elijah and Elisha were walking and talking together. Suddenly, then some horses and a chariot came and separated Elijah from Elisha. The horses and the chariot were like the fire. Then Elijah was carried up into the heaven in a whirlwind. Elisha saw that, and shouted, “My father! My father! The chariots of Israel and his horses!” Elisha never saw Elijah again. Elisha grabbed his clothes & tore them in two to show his sadness. Elijah’s coat had fallen to the ground, so Elisha picked that up. He went back and stood at the edge of the Jorden River. He hit the water and said, “Just as Elisha hit the water, the water separated into two parts, one to the right and other to the left! Then Elisha crossed the river.”

What Bible Scholars Think about the Two Witness

Well, every person has his or her interpretation. Some say that Elijah and Enoch will be two witnesses and some say Moses and Enoch, and very few say Moses and Elijah. Now, why there is confusion about the two witness. The reason behind this is that there isn’t any name given for the two witness in the Bible. So, everyone is trying to explain their interpretation.

So after discussing with many Bible scholars and doing a great search from the books and the Internet. The two witness can be Elijah and Moses.

How Moses and Enoch can be two witness

As Moses being the law writer and one of the major prophet in the Bible.(Exodus 34:27) “Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write each and everything that I told you. This is the agreement that I made with you and the Israelites.”

Another evidence for Moses is turning off water into blood. These are bible verse from the Bible which proves this (Exodus 7:20) “So Moses and Aaron did what the Lord commanded. As Aaron raised the walking stick and hit the water in the Nile River. He did this in front of Pharaoh and all his officials. So all the water in the river was changed into blood. And in (Revelation 11:6) “These witnesses have the power to stop the sky from raining during the time they are prophesying. These witnesses have great power to make the water become blood. And they have the authority to send every kind of plague to the earth. They can do this according to their will as many times as they want.

Why some say Elijah can’t be a witness

Here Jesus says about Elijah (Matthew 17:11, 12) Jesus answered, “They are right to say Elijah is coming. And it is true that Elijah will make all things the way they should be. But I tell you that, Elijah has already come. People did not know who was he, and they treated him badly, doing whatever they wanted to do. It is the same with the son of a man. Those same people will make the son of man suffer.

In this verse John can be considered as Elijah (Matthew 11:13, 14) “Before John came, Law of Moses and all the prophets told about the things that would happen. And if you believe what they said, then John is Elijah. He is the one they said would come.”

Why Bible scholars say that Elijah and Enoch are the two witness.

Elijah hasn’t come; this verse proves this. (Luke 1:17) “John himself will go ahead of the Lord and make people ready for his coming. He will be as powerful like Elijah and will have the same spirit. He will make peace between the fathers and their children. He will cause the people who are not obeying God to change and start thinking the way they should.” This verse proves that John has a power like Elijah but not being himself Elijah.

Moreover, in (Hebrew 9:27) “Everyone must die once. Then they are judged.” As we know that Elijah and Enoch haven’t died.

(1 Corinthians 15:20-23) “But Christ has been raised from death- the first one of all those who will be raised. Death comes to the people because of what one man did. But now there is the resurrection from the death because of another man. I mean that in Adam all of us were dead. And in the same way, in Christ, all of us will be made alive again. And everyone will be raised to life in the right order. Christ was first to be raised from the dead. Then, when Christ comes again, those who belong to Christ will be raised to life.”

If either Enoch or Elijah had been translated in immortal, glorified bodies, they would have been the first fruits of the resurrection instead of Christ. This proves they are in heaven in their natural bodies. They will continue there until their return to fulfill Revelation 11.

Conclusion

Here I have tried to explain about the coming of the two witness. But God knows who is coming as the two witness.

Well, there isn’t any name given for the two witness in the Bible but you have explained it with ease, such that i have no doubts.

I have decided to submit a new comment that is more precise and clear than my previous comment.

Many people believe that the “two end-time witnesses” will be Elijah and Enoch, or Elijah and Moses.

Elijah actually did experience death like everyone else. The Lord took Elijah up by a whirlwind during the reign of king Jehoshaphat of Judah. After Jehoshaphat’s death, his son, Jehoram became king. During king Jehoram’s reign, he receives a letter from Elijah.

So, now we know that several years (exactly how many years, is unclear) after Elijah is translated by the Lord in a whirlwind, that he writes a letter to king Jehoram. It now becomes quite clear that when Elijah had been taken up by a whirlwind, that the Lord had just simply translated him to a secret location where he could not be found by his enemies.

Enoch, Elijah and Moses in their day fulfilled God’s purposes for them. Throughout history there have been certain generations in which God has “raised up” certain individuals to carry out a special task for Him. This generation will be no different. The Lord will “raise up” the “two end-time witnesses” to fulfill His purposes for them “in this generation”

Please take special note that the emphasis is on being “raised up” for this generation!

They are almost certainly to be alive at the present time. It is quite possible and likely that at this present time that they do not even know that the Lord has chosen them to be the “two end-time witnesses”.
