What are Angels ?

Angels according to the Bible are the messenger of God or attendants. The word ‘’Angel’’ comes from Greek word ‘Aggelos’ which does mean a messenger and name of Angels in Hebrew is ‘Malak.’ Angels are not part of any books except The Bible. As the Angels are mentioned at least 108 times in the Old Testament and 165 times in New Testament. The angels are Uncountable the (Daniel 7:10) proves this. They are heavenly spiritual beings. They are also the creation of God as the verse in the Bible (Colossians 1:16) also proves this. God created them very beautifully, they appear like human beings, but they have wings. Angels are called by different names in the Bible namely “Watchers, Sons of mighty, Sons of God, Congregation of the mighty, Saints, Hosts, Spirits, the elect angels.” Angels are of four types according to what Bible Says, but every angel has some special powers given by God. They are immortal and very powerful in the body they can do everything that humans can and can’t But however God made the humans more unique than angles because Angles can’t take their own decisions but whereas humans have freedom to take any kind of decision according to their will. According to Bible verse (Isaiah 37:36) in one night, an Angel of the Lord went out and killed 185,000 men this does show that how much angles are powerful. Angels need no rest. God doesn’t create the Angels to make the humans worship them (Colossians 2:18) because the God made the Angels and the humans to worship him. However, some of the angel’s rebelled against the Lord and were fallen on earth. They are of different types as God has created them to serve him. They have different looks and different jobs. The angles mostly come in a small group or called Legion, and this Legion may comprise from 3,000 to 6,000 angels.

Angels are of four types:

  1. Cherubim

  2. Gabriel

  3. Michael

  4. Seraphim
